The challenge

In 2017 we were approached to deliver the annual Torbay Airshow with a brief covering everything from rebranding and website builds, to developing new revenue streams but most of all to use the power and potential of this event as a destination placemaking tool for the iconic English Riviera.

The solution

Applying a belt and braces approach we approached all elements of the event from its budget to sponsorships, traders and exhibitors, creative design, site layout and event and financial management.

Rebranding the airshow and creating an all new website, as well as implementing an in depth social media strategy we pulled public opinion away from the negatives of the first year, creating excitement and buzz around the event.

During the event weekend, Paignton Green hosted an event village with entertainment, trade stands, fair rides, bars and catering. Although Team REM was grounded all weekend, it was a great example of how our event management packages combine income generation, event production and management and project management to produce a superb event.

The result

The 2017 Torbay Airshow was a huge success drawing in a record breaking crowd of 150,000 – which we surpassed in 2018 – providing an action packed two day programme of world class flying displays.

Within one year we also turned Torbay Airshow from a loss-making venture into a cost neutral event with the introduction of alternative revenue streams as well as stricter financial control around site expenditure.
