Bristol Half Marathon - 17 September
For
the fifth year in a row REM worked with Bristol City Council to
help manage the Half Marathon, which saw almost 10,000 runners
safely complete the course this year. We provided site crew and
health and safety services, helping to ensure the event continues
to be a successful major sporting occasion for the region. It
is always a great reaction when any of us say we are running the
Bristol Half Marathon.

HMS Clyde Naming Ceremony – 7 September
REM created the concept and delivered the spectacular naming ceremony
for the Royal Navy’s new 80m Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPVH),
HMS Clyde. The event was especially significant as this was the
first ship to be completely constructed in Portsmouth for 40 years.
VT
Group appointed REM to produce the event having been impressed
by their ideas to incorporate the history of previous HMS Clyde
vessels and reflect the huge advances in technology incorporated
in the new ship.
Following
a VIP dinner 1,200 guests made their way to grandstand seating
flanking the dock and a further 330 VVIPs were housed in a Serious
Structures space building constructed at VT main reception offices
looking over the hull and super-structure of the ship. With the
ship shrouded in ‘cloud’ and blinders hiding the vessel
a traditional naming ceremony took place, with a blessing by the
Royal Navy Chaplain.
HMS
Clyde then burst into life, its grey hulk becoming the screen
for an impressive projection with accompanying audio, effects
lighting, pyrotechnics, lasers and the band of the Royal Marines
performing on the helicopter deck.
A
fantastic blend of Navy tradition and cutting edge production
techniques.

Jersey Live 2006 – 1 & 2 September
Working on behalf of Positiv Productions, REM crossed the English
Channel to undertake the event management of Jersey Live 2006.
The National Press and music industry press have called this
jewel of an event the ‘best little festival of the year’
and with the promoters we are justifiably proud of the reputation
the festival has gained in such a short time. This years acts
included Snow Patrol, The Zutons, The Levellers, The Editors,
Sandi Thom and local bands getting a well deserved chance to
play in front of a big crowd. Only drawback was it took us two
weeks to stop singing “ I wish I was a punk rocker with
flowers in my hair “

enjoyed by 150,000 of the city’s residents and an increasing
number of visitors from outside the city. Services provided included

Glasgow River Festival – 15 & 16 July
In the second year of our contract with Glasgow River Festival,
REM took a big step forward in its ambition to grow the festival
into one of Scotland’s premier outdoor events. With the
appearance of tall ships on the Clyde providing a link with the
river’s rich heritage and the Zapcat Grand Prix bringing
fast moving race action , this years festival attracted 80,000
visitors over two days. And even more amazingly, for Glasgow Fair
Weekend, the sun shone brightly.
